Welcome to Texas A&M University’s home site for A Community of Respect. This nationally recognized, award winning, cross-cultural communication program was developed to foster greater cultural competence in the workplace.

What is A Community of Respect?

It is a program designed to show you how your cultural values determine how you interpret the behaviors of others and how to effectively communicate with someone from another background. We offer two types of training: a train-the-trainer workshop and a cultural awareness seminar.

Who is A Community of Respect created for?

This training program is designed for in-house trainers, managers, consultants, staff developers and other intercultural practitioners who are responsible for presenting diversity training for improving cross-cultural communication in their workplaces. We offer the workshops twice a semester and once during the summer. The seminar is available for any organization that desires to learn how to recognize different cultural values and deal with them in a way that produces a positive work environment. The seminars are available by request.

Participants have found this program very successful in raising their awareness of communication differences between people from different cultural backgrounds.  In addition, the Community of Respect program has helped Texas A&M University and the surrounding community to become a more welcoming and inclusive environment for the international faculty, scholars, students, family members and visitors that live here. The Community of Respect program is not limited to American versus international interactions; it has also proved beneficial for those who want to learn about understanding intra-American cultural differences.
